For Cullen Wanvig, fundraising is personal, which is driven by his mission to make a difference in the community. In the past two years, he participated in the Movember campaign before recognizing the need to support a local organization to ensure that funds raised through this initiative stay in Alberta. In 2024, Cullen has joined the Prostate Cancer Centre’s (PCC) Keep It In Alberta campaign, so every dollar raised will directly benefit Alberta men.

PCC holds deep significance for Cullen. In 2018, his dad was treated at PCC, and his sister’s father-in-law also received care at the organization. Supporting the Keep It In Alberta campaign means he’s giving back to a place that cared for his family, knowing the funds will support men right in his community. Cullen shares, “it just makes sense to help the people closest to you.”

Cullen has set an ambitious goal for himself: running 100 miles each week throughout November. Although he jokingly admits he’s “beginning to feel the miles in his legs,” he finds motivation by knowing he’s helping men in Alberta. He’s grateful for the friends, family, and golf course colleagues who’ve supported him along the way.

Reflecting on his father’s prostate cancer diagnosis, Cullen recalls the initial fear but also the relief when it was caught early. His dad’s positive recovery underscores the importance of early detection, a fact Cullen now holds close. “I’ll definitely start getting tested as I get older,” he says, emphasizing how this journey has changed his outlook on health.

This November, as Cullen pushes through his goal to run 100 miles a week, he’s not only running for his dad but also for all the men as well as their caregivers and families in Alberta facing prostate cancer, making every step count.
