Our Indigenous Comittment
Recent studies show Alberta Indigenous men get fewer prostate cancer tests, have more aggressive disease at diagnosis, and are more likely to have their cancer spread than non-Indigenous men.
The Prostate Cancer Centre aims to improve Indigenous men’s health, build trust, and eliminate healthcare barriers, fostering healthier communities. This year we are committed to bringing the MAN VAN® to more Indigenous communities than ever before.
This means working closely with Elders, Indigenous partners, a Metis strategic consultant, and listening to communities before our MAN VAN® visits to build lasting, trustworthy relationships.
Additionally, our MAN VAN® team attends Indigenous cultural training to deepen their understanding and respect for the traditions, values, and unique health needs of Indigenous communities.
By tailoring our approach, we aim to put the needs of Indigenous men at the forefront of our services.
We are trying to address equitable access to care by bridging healthcare gaps, fostering trust, and promoting health equity within Indigenous communities, ultimately building healthier futures for all.
The MAN VAN® is Canada’s first mobile men’s health clinic offering FREE PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood testing used for early detection of prostate cancer. Indigenous communities also receive additional health measurements including blood pressure, blood sugar, waist circumference and mental wellness checks for all men 18+.
