PREHABILITATION

In 2023/24, the PCC underwent a major physical expansion in Calgary to provide new and innovative services for our prostate cancer patients, and their loved ones. These services go beyond clinical support and offer proactive care for patients prior to treatment.

Prehabilitation concept designed to support patients prepare for the physical and emotional challenges after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. It aims to improve patients overall well-being before undergoing surgery or other prostate cancer treatments. As part of this initiative, we offer a pelvic floor yoga class, helping patients connect with their bodies and practice essential pelvic floor exercises; individuals assessment and group fitness exercise classes; As well as multiple support groups to encourage mental wellness.

Additionally, an online patient portal has been introduced to house important resources for both patients and their loved ones. This platform enhances knowledge and preparedness by providing accessible information on treatment, recovery, and overall wellness.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

A group session that provides peer support through a community of likeminded people. The men can ask the tough questions with those who have already gone through the process and reduce anxiety before treatment. Patients at any point of their journey are welcome to attend.

GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES

Through collaboration with researchers from the University of Calgary, we built a fitness centre and introduced pre-habilitation group exercise classes. Initial feedback already demonstrates that overall anxiety is reduced, and the men feel better prepared for their surgery and potential outcomes. These classes are only for patients who have completed a 1:1 session with a CEP.

SELF-CARE WITH CANCER

This mental wellness class was designed for those preparing for surgery and helps to manage anxiety, better understand outcomes and develop strategies for addressing potential side effects like incontinence and sexual dysfunction.

PELVIC FLOOR YOGA

This group exercise program is a targeted program for participants to help strengthen pelvic muscles leading into prostate cancer treatment.

CARING FOR CAREGIVERS

These support groups sessions were designed with caregivers in mind to address their mental wellness needs and stress related topics of being a caregiver.

COUNSELLING

Focused one-on-one sessions for patients, caregivers and couples to address the impacts of prostate cancer.
